It's almost time for Thanksgiving break! This also means that we are nearing the end of the semester. After break we will have one week of classes and then finals week, and that's it. I've been kind of busy working on final papers, and some teachers have even started handing out study guides for finals. It kind of feels like I am on a neverending homework cycle! When I finish my homework for Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, it seems like it's time to start the homework for Tuesday or Thursday.
We are also fully engaged in our winter softball workouts. We lift and hit three days a week and do sprints and pitch two days a week. I can't wait for our spring season to start, which won't be too long. We will start practices shortly after Christmas break, and our first games are in Tuscon, Arizona at the beginning of March.
On top of school and softball, we just finished our regular season for intramural basketball. We played about two nights a week for about four weeks. Our team was undefeated. YAY! Playoffs will begin sometime after Thanksgiving. It should be pretty exciting.
That's prett much all I have been up to lately.
Until next time,
Erica

Nasty Weather!
Wow! That weather just can't decide what it wants to do. The beginning of the week was so nice. We were walking outside without our coats on and even going outside to play catch for our softball workouts. It was absolutely beautiful! Then about midweek, Mother Nature decided to switch it up on us. I ended up pulling out my winter coat after the snow we got Thursday night!
This cold weather isn't really helping the cold I've had the last 2 weeks. While I've been "under the weather" I have pretty much spent my days going to class and sleeping. I found myself taking a nap with every bit of free time I had. So I called home to good old Dr. Mom and figured out what I needed to start taking to get over that nasty cold and now it's almost cleared up.
We had Blue and Gold Days/Family Weekend on campus here this weekend. My family didn't make it because of the weather (that weather has been trying to put a damper on everything). They had to stay home. Dad wasn't expecting snow this early, so my family had to stay and get some the rest of the fall farmwork finished up before it really starts snowing. So I planned on sticking around and going to the basketball games, but then that nasty weather took care of those too! I ended up going the the Fall Play, To Gillian on her 37th Birthday. The cast and everyone involved did a great job!
Though the games were cancelled and the weather made for a rather quiet weekend, I still didn't get much work done. There's something about bad weather that just makes you feel unproductive. With the rest of my free time this weekend, I watched movies and started decorating for Christmas (the snow must have put me in the Christmas spirit).
The basketball games from the weekend were rescheduled for the beginning of the week. Hopefully the weather cooperates!!!

The End of Another Week
Well, another week of classes down. This week seemed to fly by, probably because I kept busy most of the time.
My Tuesdays and Thursdays are generally pretty busy. I start my day at 8 in the morning observing in an English classroom at Yankton High School for my field experience. From there, I come back to campus and go to my Introduction to Christianity class. Then it's off to lunch at 11, choir at 12, and Indian Studies at 2. I normally finish my day, then, with work study. This week, however, we started intramural basketball. Our team played both Tuesday and Thursday night. I haven't really played since high school, so it's a lot of fun to get back on the court.
On Wednesday night, I went to the Lancer volleyball game. My roommate and john-mate are both on the team, so I try to make it to every game to cheer them on. The ladies kept it interesting and came out with the victory in 5. It was a pretty exciting match! They play again tonight (Friday) for their last home game of the season. I plan on heading down to the gym and cheering them on again! Go Lancers!
That's pretty much my week. It's always nice when Friday comes around. I like having the weekends to rest and relax. With my busy schedule, I don't get a lot of time for that. Next week we will continue our intramural games and our softball team starts our offseason workouts. Busy, busy, busy!

Another weekend back in Iowa
I don't normally go home every weekend, but I have gone home the last two. Last weekend, as I said, was my little sisters' birthdays. This weekend my family had tickets to the Iowa State v Nebraska football games in Ames! I was disappointed that I had to miss Fall Formal back at the Mount, but I hadn't been to an ISU game in two years and really wanted to go.
My trip didn't turn out to be near as exciting as I had hoped, though. I woke up at 5 o'clock on Saturday morning. We had planned to leave for my cousin's house at 7:30 to meet and go to the game. I don't know if I was just so excited that I couldn't sleep, but I finally gave up on trying and got out of bed and showered at 5:30.
We met my cousin and went to the game. Before the game even started, I knew it wasn't going to be good. The announcer had spent at least five minutes pumping up the crowd. The band had just played the fight song, and smoke had started to come from the tunnel. Then, as the team came running out of the tunnel onto the field, one of the very first player ran out and right into the goal post. What a proud moment for Cyclone fans!
The rest of the game went just about the same. The Huskers killed my Cyclones, and I left the stadium a very unhappy fan. By the end of the night, I was missing the Mount and wishing I had stayed for Fall Formal instead.

Weekend at Home
I went home this past weekend. Two of my younger sisters had birthdays last week, and so their parties were this weekend. My youngest sister had 11 girls from her class out to our house Friday night. I helped my mom with the games and helped feed them, and then we dropped most of them off, and the rest of us went to my high school football game.
My high school was playing our cross town rival in what they have started calling the "Brat Bowl." It was a good game and my alma mater came out on top. I got to meet up with some friends from high school, so it turned out to be a pretty good time.
On Saturday, my parents took some of our horses to a horse sale, so I was stuck at home cleaning and baking for my other sister's birthday party. She is fourteen and was having her very first boy-girl party. We got everything ready and the party went smoothly for the most part.
Then, on Sunday we had my grandparents out for yet another birthday party. Mom made pork loin sandwiches and cheesy potatoes. (I got to bring the leftovers back :). Yay!) We played cards for a while, and then everyone left. It was a busy weekend but a fun one too.
